Whether you are looking for
basic or advanced dog training or puppy training
information, we can help.To get started
you should review the information below on Aberdeen Terrier appearance,
temperament, health, history and other miscellaneous
facts.
This
breed of dogs is also called Scottish Terrier. Scottish
Terriers are best known for their black color,
distinctive terrier personality as well as typical
profile. The Male Scottish terrier is known as "Scottie"
whereas female Scottish terrier is known as "Aggie" or
"Abbey".
Appearance
Scottish terriers are small-sized
and short-legged dogs. Their long head is proportionate
with their size. The large paws of the Scottish terriers
help them in digging. Erect tail and ears are considered
to be the significant features of this breed. Their
almond shaped eyes are either black or dark brown in
color. The average height of a Scottish terrier (male as
well as female) is about 10 inches. Male Scottish
terrier weighs about 19 to 22 pounds whereas the average
weight of a female Scottish terrier is 18 to 21 pounds.

Temperament
Scottish
terriers, similar to other terriers are feisty, quick as
well as alert. This breed is in general playful, fun
loving, intelligent, self-assured and independent by
nature. It is also known as "Diehard" due to its endless
determination and rugged nature. They don't bark
unnecessarily and do so only when they suspect the
presence of any stranger.
Health
The
average life span of a Scottish terrier is about 11 to
13 years. Scottish terriers run at a higher risk of
developing cancer as compared to the other breeds.
Craniomandibular osteopathy and Von Willebrand disease
are some of the essential hereditary disorders that a
Scottish terrier comes across.
History
The
actual origination of this breed is not yet known.
However, it is believed that this breed has its
origination form Scotland. In 1934, United Kennel Club
recognized this breed.
Miscellaneous
This breed of dog gained its popularity in the US
towards the beginning of 1936. This is the only dog
breed that stayed in the "white house" for three
times.
Behavior/Obedience Problems and Solutions
Keep in mind, behavior/obedience problems can happen with any breed of dog. They may be experiencing problems because the dog is just young, or has been trained poorly or abused. It is important to identify these behaviors and then address them.
Did you know social confusion is one reason that a dog might act out. Dogs think about their human families as their pack. So, it is important that your dog realizes that he is at the bottom of the pecking order. While this may seem strange or harsh, remember that submissive pack members will do what the more dominant members say. Period.
That means you, the Dog Parent, must
learn how to train your dog or puppy, so you, your kids
and your dog have the best life possible. Why? Because we all want to
be respected by other dog owners as someone who takes
great care of their dog. However, there are
tons of "so-called dog training" products on the
market.Trust me, I have tried
them all.However, one continues
to rise above the rest -
Secrets to Dog Training
There's an impressive amount of
information packed into this guide. It's not just the
problem behaviors that are discussed. The book starts off
with new dog owner advice (how to choose a puppy or dog,
the best places to get your dog from, breed information,
puppy and/or dog proofing your home, the first
veterenarian visit, housetraining and more). If you are looking for more advance info it
covers:behavioral problems (such as aggression, dominance, chewing, digging,
excessive barking, separation anxiety),
intermediate-level obedience commands, health-related
dog problems (allergies, cat/dog coexistence, fleas,
heatstroke), and advanced commands and tricks. There is
also an impressive section on dog
whispering.
Daniel Stevens explains the
background of the technique, how to utilize voice and
body language to your best advantage, and how to use the
technique to calmly, assertively, and effectively
correct and train your dog or puppy. Step-by-step
instructions are included for basic commands (sit, down,
come, stay, quiet).
