Appearance

The English foxhounds are a muscular breed of dogs, which has a height of about 21 to 25 inches and their weight is something between 65-75 pounds. Some male foxhounds weigh even 100 pounds. Their skulls are wide, the eyes have a sweet expression and their muzzles are long. Their legs are muscular and their paws are rounded like cats.

Temperament

The foxhounds belong to pack of hounds and maintain a good relation with other dogs and even enjoys companion of humans. They are reputed as social, gentle and as a tolerant breed.

Health

The English foxhounds occasionally suffer from renal disease, hip dysplasia and epilepsy. The life span of this breed is something between 10-13 years. After the age of 6-7 they can be used for hunting.

History

The breed originated in the late 1500s and they were used for deer hunting; and as a result there was a huge depletion of deer in the country. During the rule of Henry VIII, there was a need of a new prey for hunting and so the English foxhound was created mixing the greyhound, bulldog and fox terrier. These dogs were used to trail foxes and for guarding the horses, and till now, they are used for the same purpose.

Miscellaneous

In the US, the English foxhound is one of the rare breeds and till a recent survey; the number of this breed in the entire country is only 17.

I have no qualms in recommending the Secrets to Dog Training package to anyone who owns, or is thinking about owning, a dog. You don't need to have a 'problem pet' for the book to be of assistance: there's information included that can be useful to any and all dog owners.

From personal experience, the only other thing I would do is upgrade to the Secrets to Dog Training premium version because it has an online video series that is excellent as well as software which allows you to keep track of all the necessary and important details about your dog such as medical history, vaccinations, operations, appointments, obedience training, and much more.
